Wiz is redefining cloud security from the ground up. Guided by a visionary leadership team, the company’s mission is to help organizations build secure cloud environments that support business growth. By implementing a standardizing layer between various cloud platforms, Wiz’s solution enables businesses to swiftly identify and mitigate critical risks, ensuring a more robust and agile security posture.
As cloud security threats continue to evolve, what future trends do you anticipate will most impact your organization?
A: The cybersecurity landscape is expanding rapidly. On one hand, more organizations are migrating to cloud environments. On the other, threats are increasing due to this shift and the fast pace of technological advancements, particularly with the rise of AI. This creates immense pressure on CISOs and security leaders, who are now required to keep up with these changes while managing an average of 75 security tools. One major trend we’re observing is the growing need for integration and consolidation. The cybersecurity industry is undergoing a paradigm shift, moving from isolated features to unified platforms. Consolidation is key because it provides clearer visibility and greater accuracy. Security teams need a prioritized view of risks, which is why Wiz was designed from the outset as a comprehensive platform.
The second major trend is AI. Similar to the early days of cloud computing, AI adoption is accelerating rapidly. That’s why Wiz is continuously integrating AI-driven capabilities into its cloud-native application protection platform to stay ahead of this shift.
How are you leveraging emerging technologies, such as AI, to enhance cloud security and support broader business goals?
A: Generative AI is inherently cloud-native due to the high compute demands of training and inference, making the scalability of cloud infrastructure essential.
At Wiz we see AI present in more than 70% of cloud environments today. Despite the relative newness of this emerging tech, it’s undergone explosive adoption that is virtually unparalleled – and recalls the early days of cloud itself. However, 32% of enterprises are still experimenting, with fewer than 10 AI instances deployed, signaling hesitancy in scaling AI use.
With its relatively young codebase and high adoption rate, AI presents an attractive target to attackers. Our focus is on helping our customers secure their AI pipeline and giving them a concrete strategy when they come to us asking, “What’s the best, safest way to adopt AI?”
What are your organization’s long-term plans for advancing cloud security, particularly in adopting emerging technologies?
A: Our long-term vision for advancing cloud security centers on building cutting-edge products that consistently outperform competitors and capture market share. We prioritize collaboration across the cybersecurity ecosystem through an ongoing integration program, partnering with dozens of companies to create maximum value for our customers. In this fast-evolving industry, "good enough" is never an option—our commitment is to deliver the best solutions, ensuring that our customers always receive the most advanced and effective security technologies available. This strategy allows us to stay ahead as emerging technologies like AI continue to reshape the landscape.
We have always believed that in order to scale in the cloud, security must be woven into the development lifecycle. That is why we recently announced the general availability of Wiz Code – with it, we are bringing the trademark precision of Wiz’s cloud security platform to developer environments. Extending our coverage from the first line of code to runtime has already helped our customers in preview transform their AppSec and DevSecOps programs. Now, every other organization can secure their cloud-native applications at every stage of development, protecting their code, CI/CD systems, and infrastructure in one unified platform.
The results are immediate: better security posture for your code and cloud, faster remediation of security issues, and improved developer productivity.
What strategies have you employed to shift the perception of cloud security from being a cost center to a business enabler within your organization?
Wiz enables customers to democratize cloud security, so that many different teams become responsible for reducing risk – not just security. Among the many benefits of this approach is the fact that it enables companies to scale, because their security teams are laser focused on high-impact work that addresses business critical issues versus “keep the lights on” efforts. This empowers the business to move faster, because it can unleash the full transformative power of cloud and use resources smartly.
How do you measure the success of your cloud security initiatives in terms of business outcomes such as innovation, scalability, or competitive advantage?
A: For our customers, one tangible way we measure success is by welcoming them into the “Zero Criticals Club,” a milestone that celebrates the hard work and dedication of many different teams across the business, including security and development.
Wiz’s own rapid growth reflects our strong customer commitment. Everything we do is to earn and uphold their trust. We’ve pushed on innovation, scalability, and competitive advantage, achieving $100 million in ARR in just two and a half years—a milestone that highlights the high demand for our solution. With only 15% of environments currently migrated to the cloud, we’re positioned to capitalize on the immense potential of cloud adoption. Wiz’s platform is designed to help businesses stay secure and agile while managing their cloud and AI environments.
How do you evaluate the impact of your cloud security strategy in terms of fostering innovation and maintaining a competitive edge in your industry?
A: Our ability to serve over 40% of the Fortune 100 is a clear indicator of our market leadership. By continuously evolving our platform-driven approach, we stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring that our customers benefit from unparalleled scalability, agility, and security. This relentless focus on innovation and leadership will help us achieve our long-term goals, including reaching $1 billion in sales and a potential IPO.
The last 12 months have been marked by significant milestones for the company, including a $1 billion funding round at a $12 billion valuation, notable executive hires, increased M&A activity, and third-party recognition.
In a May blog post following the funding round, lead investor Andreessen Horowitz called Wiz “the next iconic cybersecurity platform.”
At the beginning of 2024, Wiz announced the appointment of Dali Rajic, former Zscaler executive, as the company’s new President & COO, and revealed it had surpassed $350 million in ARR, declaring 2024 as “the year of security consolidation.” Since then, the company has acquired cloud detection and response startup Gem Security, been voted the #1 security product by independent customer reviews on G2, and received the top score in the “current offering” category of The Forrester Wave™: Cloud Workload Security, Q1, 2024.
